GETTING HERE

Wandari Lodge is located in Cusco Province, at the outskirts of the tiny town of Quincemil, at kilometer 192 of the Southern Interoceanic Highway that crosses the south of Peru and continues across Brazil. If you’re coming by plane, there are two ways to reach Wandari – either via Cusco or via Puerto Maldonado. You can get to both these cities by a short flight from Lima. From there it’s either a 3-hour drive (from Puerto Maldonado) or a 4-hour drive (from Cusco). The highway is in excellent condition and you can book either public or private transport to reach us. Alternatively, we can organize a pick up from any point you choose in any one of these two cities for only $50 per person.

Both routes are rather impressive: if you come from Puerto Maldonado you’ll be driving across the rainforest with greenery surrounding the full extent of your trip while feeling the unique smell and heat of the jungle. If you decide to come from Cusco, the route will take you high up, across the Andean peaks, where you’ll see the impressive glacial landscapes, until you reach the highest point on the route, at 4,725 meters above sea level at the Pirhuayani pass. After crossing this pass, you’ll begin to descend into the jungle, while watching the landscape gradually change from the snowcapped high Andes into the lush rainforest, to finally reach your destination at approximately 600 meters above sea level.

Once you get to the town of Quincemil (in English it means ‘Fifteen Thousand’ – a rather peculiar name with many different theories behind it), you just have to ask anyone for Wandari Lodge. Some people still remember it by its old name: ‘Hotel La Casona’. In any case, it’s at the outskirts of the town, adjacent to the Medical Post – a 10-minute walk from the highway. Call us if you need us to come and fetch you.
